What Do Suttons Seeds, A Hollywood Film Star, San Lorenzo & A Football Charity Have In Common ?

CASLA Petunia Mix seeds are now available on the Suttons Seeds website.  The seeds are named CASLA after the Argentinian football team 'Club Atletico San Lorenzo De Almagro.' and are red and blue petunias team colours, 50p from each packet sold will be donated to the Torquay United Football in the Community Sports Trust, which reaches far and wide across the South West of England.  But how did this all come about ?

The Film Star
Being an avid fan of Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn from Lord Of The Rings),  it was no surprise that during a book signing at the BFI Film Festival last year in London, Francijn Suermondt the PR Executive for Suttons Seeds grabbed the opportunity to pass him her Suttons Seeds PR business card.  On the back of the card she had written to ask him if he would be happy for Suttons to name a flower mix after his favourite football team, and that all the proceeds would go to helping youth football teams in the UK with no sponsorship.

Two months later Fran was amazed to receive a postcard from Viggo stating that he would be honoured if we named the new Petunia mix 'CASLA' (Club Atletico San Lorenzo De Almagro) which is his favourite team based in Argentina where he grew up as a child.  And he would like the mix to be in the blue and red colours of the San Lorenzo shield.

At the 2012 BFI Film Festival in London on October 20th, Mr Mortensen was presented with his very own packet of CASLA seeds.  He has since written all about the seeds and Suttons in his column on the San Lorenzo Official Football Club website, in which he stated ‘This is a priceless gift. You can imagine the amount of English people that will sow blue and red emblems in their gardens next year............’

The Charity
Established in 1992, the Torquay United Football Club Community Sports & Education Trust has a team who work tirelessly in Devon and the surrounding area to promote community participation in healthy recreation and providing facilities so that the whole of the community can enjoy the health benefits of playing football.  The team are also very involved in running Football Academies to local children by providing:

  • After school football clubs

  • 3 week healthy lifestyle programmes

  • Educational tours around the Torquay United Football Grounds

50p from each pack will be donated to supporting the Torquay United Community Sports Trust.

Suttons Seeds Go Down A Storm At The Big Feastival!

The Suttons show team are back at Suttons HQ after introducing the Jamie's Big Feastival Go-er's to our fabulous products and tempting them with tasty, wacky popcorn and all the fun of the fair with our games for the children.

Most popular of all was the James Wong's Homegrown Revolution range and also our Speedyveg range.  It was our pleasure also to introduce our For Your Space range to all the new younger generation of gardeners who have just moved into properties with either new gardens or smaller spaces for container growing.
Armed with stacks of helpful leaflets, we were pleased to help prepare these budding foodie growers on their way to a colourful garden and healthy dinner plate!!

The fabulously delicious Mojito, Strawberries & Cream, Edible Flowers and Herb Garden popcorn selections, which were created for us by Simon Hulstone of the Michelin star Elephant Restaurant, went down a storm, with Strawberries and Cream being favoured by the children ..... and, yes you guessed it .... Mojito very much enjoyed by adults!!!!

More insider info on the Suttons Seeds Circus event at the Big Feastival at the end of the week after a long soak in the bath and a large glass of well earned bubbly!!!!

 All Hail The Rabbit Attack

I have been happily part of the Suttons Seeds gang for 8 years, and enjoy my role as PR Executive immensely, informing the press and public of all that is great and good about this historically innovative horticultural company.

However, as a mad music, fashion and food fan I also want to shout about these superb elements of my life and feel that it is time to unleash the rabbit.

From fashion buying in Devon to writing rock reviews in LA and even drumming in a thrash metal Elvis cover band in Amsterdam, I cannot control the urge to explore all things colourful and rich in these areas.  And where does the food bit come in?  Well I have basically eaten my way around the world, chowder in California, Bitterballen in Holland, Spaghetti Ajo e Ojo in Rome, Roti in Sri Lanka or Tom Kha Gai in Thailand ..... this bunny just loves her food !!!!

So, I have my PR skates on and am ready to go gadget go .....!!!!

The South West Is Open For Business & Rocking At Chelsea this Year!!!

Thrills Set For Chelsea Flower Show ....We will be celebrating 50 years of Britain in Bloom in the South West at Chelsea this year with a garden which has been inspired by the region and designed by RHS Gold Medal winner Jon Wheatley, varieties provided by Suttons Seeds and grown by Terry Porter.

The garden, supported by Britain in Bloom –South West sponsor Viridor, will be planted in their Revive compost and soil conditioner. With this garden we want to promote the fact that through all the crisis of flooding in the area recently, the South West is open for business and tourism.

We have been very, very lucky in the extreme generosity of Ian Gillan, the singer with Deep Purple, who is based in the South West, and who has agreed to open our garden (apart from the locality connection we will also be promoting a ‘top secret’ new variety which is deep purple/ black in colour)

Rabbit Attack will be spearheading the PR for Only Here as of October 2014.   The Only Here website was launched earlier this year with the mission of bringing beautifully designed products to their customers, whilst at the same time showcasing those artists who have created these stunning pieces.

Rabbit Attack is thrilled to have been asked to spearhead this campaign, she cannot wait to tell the story of these fabulously talented designers and the pure, awe-inspiring quality of their craft.

So watch this space for more news to come on this refreshingly new concept of on line exhibiting, combined with offering art lovers the chance to own their own unique piece of artisan heaven!

Cucamelon Fever Hits All Time High

As part of the Suttons Seeds and James Wong's 'Homegrown Revolution' range the Cucamelon has received iconic status internationally after a press campaign by Suttons PR Executive Francijn Suermondt.

The Cucamelon looks like a small watermelon, but tastes like cucumber with a tinge of lime.  Perfect for salads and also pretty cool in a cocktail, this is the ideal addition to picnics and cocktail parties.

After the campaign in spring 2013, all of the main national press picked up on this story, including The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Metro and all major gardening magazines.  Francijn was also inundated with requests for radio interviews (BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Gardening Shows) and for fruit to be sent to tv shows.

Because of this coverage Suttons Seeds were getting requests from vegetable growers from as far a field as Germany, Vietnam, Australia, Colombia and Thailand.

Description: Trailing vines which produce an abundance of fruit throughout the summer.  Fabulous to look at, like little dolls size stripey melons, these stunners are resistant to pests and drought and will happily grow outdoors in the UK in a sheltered sunny spot.
